Physical Education (PE)

PE 1

Aim

Our aim is for all pupils to leave West Blatch physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and life- long participation in physical activity and sports.

P.E pro is a high-quality physical education curriculum which inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness.

At West Blatch, we are committed to inclusion in all its aspects and ensure that all children, regardless of ability, race, gender, culture or SEND, are given appropriate opportunities to access the curriculum. In order to achieve this, we provide a differentiated curriculum and, where possible, additional support.

Swimming

Each year group in KS2 will continue to have swimming lessons within the academic year. These will focus on teaching children to:

  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.

  • Use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke].

  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

Albion in the Community - Premier League Primary Stars

We are very lucky to work closely with Albion in the Community, operated by Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club.  This year we will be participating in their Premier League Primary Stars programme, which helps to support and develop the teaching of PE within the school, as well PSHE and reading.  In November, the school took part in a numeracy enrichment day at the American Express Community Stadium as part of our programme of support, which combined numeracy with football and culminated with a tour of the impressive stadium.
