Mr Russell Brentnall
My name is Russell Brentnall and I am the Assistant Headteacher, as well as the Early Years and Key Stage 1 Leader.
In 2002, I started my career in Education as a Learning Coordinator working with young adults with profound disabilities. From working with adults, I then made the move to teaching in primary schools in 2005. The next 7 years of my profession were spent teaching in a school in West Sussex, where I taught Year 1, Year 3 and Year 4. Whilst teaching both KS1 and KS2, I also played an active role coordinating different subjects including Maths, Science, DT, History and Geography. Since 2008, I have taken on leadership roles within the schools that I have worked in. These have included subject based roles, for example overseeing STEM (Science, Technology/Computing, Engineering and Maths) as well as managing Key Stages (EYFS, KS1 and Lower KS2).
I joined West Blatchington in 2012, as a member of the Senior Leadership Team as the Key Stage 1 leader. Since then, I have played an active part in strengthening the teaching and learning of the school. In my current role, I am an Assistant Head teacher, overseeing EYFS and KS1. I am also one of the English coordinators in the school. As well as being part of the SLT, I am also a class teacher in Year 2 working alongside Mrs Stingone in Skylarks Class.
It is such an exciting time, having recently moved into our new building. I look forward to all of the changes and challenges that the future brings.
