Children experience a wide variety of mathematical activities in order to develop a range of skills, knowledge and concepts with the ability to apply them.
Our teaching style encourages children to think clearly and logically whilst being able to explain their methods and reasoning. Children use their knowledge and skills to solve problems, generate new questions and make connections across other areas of the curriculum.
Working with Albion in the Community
We are very lucky to work closely with Albion in the Community, operated by Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club. This year we will be participating in their Premier League Primary Stars programme, which helps to support and develop the teaching of PE within the school, as well PSHE and reading.
During the last academic year, we worked with Albion in the Community to support our numeracy curriculum and in November 2017, the school took part in a numeracy enrichment day at the American Express Community Stadium as part of our programme of support, which combined numeracy with football and culminated with a tour of the impressive stadium. Activities included calculating league tables and managing a budget for a fantasy football team.
Parental feedback was hugely positive:
"The way they taught it, the way they got her involved by doing games, tasks and giving her a tour, has set off a spark in her for maths! She is looking at it differently - amazing!"
"My daughter couldn't stop talking about it and all of the maths stuff she had done. I've never heard her so excited about maths!"
"My daughter got home and said to me... I can do this! It was literally a light bulb going off."
